Beats by Dre Noise Cancelling Headphones

Okay, I know these aren’t exactly wireless but I just HAD to write about them just because I own a set. So I thought I’d draft up a decent Noise Cancelling Headphones review for you all.

I’ve owned my noise cancelling Hanc 250’s (they’re known as “high grade”) for almost three years now. Prior to these I quite frequently bought “cheaper” headphones. Much to my dismay they never quite reached my expectations.

Cheap sets never really cut it with me and I never found a pair that truly fitted snug over my ears either for that matter. Sometimes “bits” would break off, leaving me high and dry and without headphones when I needed them most. At least once the sound quality degraded gradually over a period of months to the point I had muffled, inaudible sound.

That’s when it suddenly dawned on me (my father’s advice I mean). He often told me, “sometimes paying a bit more in the first place is better than paying twice”. Meaning or course, if you buy cheap you often end up buying again… and again… get the picture? Think about it, it’s true – I found out the hard way.

And so it was I purchased my current noise cancelling headphones. The differences were chalk and cheese from the start. The most obvious being a dramatic increase in sound quality, which I found to be really outstanding. Likewise was the fit around my ears. Finally! Nearly three years later and I haven’t looked back. Thanks Dad!

The construction and finish of the headphones is excellent. The cables are strong and well made with both connectors and cabling also of high quality. The overall profile of the headphones is nice, actually quite small and portable – not big and bulk like cheap sets – and even some other expensive ones can be.

It’s a tad fiddly replacing the battery when you’re in a hurry but that’s no deal breaker. In any case that’s not an issue at all especially since the (single) battery last so darned long. Incidentally, I always take a spare battery along with me wherever I go but rarely need it.

I love the idea of being able to take these things anywhere I go including when I fly too. Very cool!

Let’s take a closer look at some of the features of these headphones…

– Great all-round build quality
– Very light in weight
– On or Off function for the noise canceling feature
– Nice, protective carry pouch
– The ear pads aren’t poorly made like cheap models The foam is very good quality “memory foam”    which is built to last and hard-wearing
– Really good sound insulation which gives you the top audio quality
– The ability to block up to 85% of external sound
– Only requires a single battery
– Long battery life

After using them for so long I think that (for the money) there’s no better headphone. Of course you can buy better if you want to spend hundreds of dollars more (detailing other models is beyond the scope of this particular review). But I personally cannot justify throwing money away in order for what amounts to very minor increases in capability.
